"... Her songs are pleasantly disturbing, her lyrics and poetic writings are dark, metaphoric and personal, and one never knows if she is talking about dreams or reality. Her visuals are sick and sensual, yet her social-critical and esoteric writings are very insightful and highly acclaimed. Fascinating! "

With her great insight in occult subjects, haunting projects like Aghast, her writings and not to forget having created a whole new music trend, she inspired, intrigued and intimidated many listeners/readers back in the nineties.

These days she focuses more on dark atmospheres and hidden human feelings. A lot of Andréa's ideas are created in her dream world and thus inspire her music, visuals and stories.

She reveils her own unusual life experiences, surealistic visions, dark sensual and animalistic impulses, dream gods, yearn for freedom, melancholic thoughts and feelings for other deep thinkers to identify with.

She blends alternative Rock and avant-garde music with a touch of tribal elements and eastern inspired sounds. Through her artist name of Nebelhexë, Andréa has released the three albums Laguz - Within the Lake, Essensual and the latest one, Dead Waters.

She announced earlier this year that her future albums will be released as Andréa Nebel, no longer as Nebelhexë. She feels she is done with the Nebelhexë name and wants to continue using a "proper" name. She loves to re-invent herself.

She is also working on a new side-project, Aghast Manor - similar to her 90's project Aghast - to create dark ambient soundtracks once more. With this project, she will focus more on ghostly soundscapes, Lovecraftian and saturnine themes.

She has further recorded a spoken words' album, with poems from The Dark Side of Dreaming, which will be her next and thus first release as Andréa Nebel actually.

Andréa loves to write surrealistic stories, such as her graphic novel One Autumn Day and her poem book The Dark Side of Dreaming. "I think an artist's greatest strength is to be able to display his/her fears and vulnerability... And I want to reach individuals who feel isolated and misunderstood in this world." Her film-scripts are (again) heavily inspired by her dreams and nightmares and she works towards making her own movies (read more in the Visuals' section).

Background

Andréa has always been fascinated by the unusual and clandestine. She always loved dark aethetics and opium-hazed decadent literature. Her musical inspirations, naturally, come from 80's Post-Punk, Gothic and particularly British Pop/Wave, which was what brought her to London in the early 90's.

Originally looking at a model career in London, she soon quit that "shallow scene" in search of dares and intense experiences. Her curiosity always brought her to many strange places. She was living with a bunch of eccentrics in abandoned buildings that turned into night-clubs, she travelled for a while throughout the British countryside with "New Age travellers" and Irish gypsies. She then became a Fetish model (not because she was into fetish, but because she had so many offers), did jobs with Redemption and Hammer movies and she was known through dark erotic performances (such as those on the Cradle of Filth shows) amongst other unusual things. She recalls quite many bizarre and hillarious moments.

Andréa studied all kinds of supernatural mysteries and joined diverse Londoner esoteric and occult circles such as the IOT. Yet, Andréa felt she had to dive deeper and soon after she enchanted and impressed the elite of the "Left Hand Path" magic world. Here she got aquainted with the main musicians of the Neo-Folk scene.

She started to express herself through music in the mid 90's. Firstly with UK Metal band Cradle of Filth, then she started to write her own music and created the ghostly dark Ambient duo Aghast. It was here she started to use the artist name "Nebel" or "Nebelhexë".

Andrea Haugen (as she is called in the real world) always disliked societies' restrictive boundaries and their fear of the unknown. She always connected to the spirit of the warrior and she had to learn early in her life to fight. Her early musical and written works talk intensely and angrily about the injustice done in the name of the patriarchal religions and their demonisation of natural human behaviour. She also wrote an entire music-project (Hagalaz' Runedance) and a book (Understanding the Northern Myths and Traditions) to the subject of Germanic Pagan traditions, demonised by Christian propaganda. With it, Andréa inspired a whole new trend in the music scene, yet soon she realised, like so many other artists before her, that she had gotten enslaved by her own creation. The press hyped up the "Pagan" part more than her music and soon she got pretty sick of it.

Andréa just wants to be known as an artist, a diverse soul who can express different aspects of herself.

"I could never be just one thing. I love to play different roles, live out all my different emotions. I need to do multi-art and my mind creates something all the time. Life is about so many different things. Life is about discovery and constant movement. I feel sorry for those that are stuck in their way of being and don't get ahead in life."

Privately, Andréa is more known for her charm, humour and self-irony. She loves exquisite things and she always discovers something new to inspire her.
