Very own, very dark, very organic, very strange? Dead Waters certainly turned out to be more organic - kind of like a mix of dreamy ambient, tribal, and a darker form of country (or something like that). Maybe it was the influence of that Texas snake beer we had in the studio (cool stuff) and the hot weather!
The songs, as usual, embrace many of my deep and dark thoughts, dreams and recent experiences... I have a talent for ending up in unusual, interesting and weird situations... always kind of stressy when it happens... but they always make the best and entertaining stories afterwards.

Essensual
Candlelight Records
2006

2. Invisible Entity (Lyrics)
3. Their Dead Poetry (Lyrics)
4. Sungod (Lyrics)
5. Erzulie's Charm (Lyrics)
6. Purple Nightshades (Lyrics)
7. Living Trash (Lyrics)
8. The Figurehead * (Lyrics)
9. The Wish (Lyrics)
10. Dreams of Little Girls (Lyrics)

Essensual is about the way we all "shine" on the outside and keep the childhood scars on the inside. What I like about the new songs, is that being produced in a Pop-like fashion, they're a great contrast to the rather gloomy, bittersweet, angry or ironic lyrics (would I ever write cheerful lyrics?). Many peculiar thoughts lie behind the words... also a certain discomfort and bitterness. And much is about hidden feelings, various thoughts within the psyche, the bad experiences that shape us, thoughts about our real being - thus the title Essensual. It is also, as always, about "getting away"’ from this frustrating everyday life.

I think it's a little pessimistic too in some parts: "I open my mouth, but there comes no sound", "I'm dizzy and tired", "We are undead", the lyrics of The Figurehead, etc. Essensual gives me feelings of loneliness, melancholy, distance, cold... but behind them I can see feelings of mystery, courage and hope. Are you agreeing with this? Is this a reflection of your vision of yourself or the outside world?
Both. Yes, it is, in many ways, a reflection of my thoughts and feelings about myself and the outside world. Like I said, I have put quite a bit of sarcasm into the lyrics. I describe in many ways, my experiences of being an artist... and a pretty woman. Like I describe in dead poetry, for example. Wherever I go, I fascinate, entertain, intrigue and inspire people... they all want my company for the moment... and they are jealous of me... but in the end, the artist girl is really alone... living in her own world... People always think artists have such glamorous lives... but often they are more alone then others.

Laguz - Within the Lake

Candlelight Records
2004

1. Totems (Lyrics)
2. Laguz - Within the Lake (Lyrics)
3. My Visual World (Lyrics)
4. Celtic Crows (Lyrics)
5. Wake to Wither (Lyrics)
6. Reverse (Lyrics)
7. Bird Song * (Lyrics)
8. Raven Night (Nightflight Mix)
9. Sleeping Beauty (Lyrics)
10. Touch of Morpheus (Lyrics)
* by Lovich/Chappell

The songs are very inspired by my childhood memories, bizarre occult experiences, wet dark streets of London, strange dreams, feelings of sadness, melancholy and lost love. Laguz - Within the Lake has less of a message and more of a feeling I want to bring across. Except the song Reverse, which is a bittersweet humoristic message: a dark goddess rises from the ground to remind abused women of their forgotten predator instinct, getting them to reverse and strike back...!

About the song Where the Lonely Souls Go: I saw this film about this poor girl in the victorian age. It was a really depressive and terrible story, and it made me really sad. So many people have been born into misery and suffering and no innocent person deserves this. And in the darkest hours of the night, I tend to think about how cruel and creepy this world can be. And it just got me thinking that we are all basically alone in the end. In death we are alone, and I guess our last journey we take alone. Will we remain alone after that? I think in some way, deep down we all feel alone. Not that it stops me from having a great time with my friends and loved ones, as I have many people around me that care a lot about me and think like me, but in some moments of sadness, noone can help you out of your feeling of loneliness...
