I hate to pretend to be "nice" (no need to say more ;-). But the phrase "Dead Waters lie deep" is, for me, symbolised by a well-stagnated water that goes really deep and no one knows what bad secrets lie down there... There is something creepy about wells... and the makers of the film The Ring thought so too, no doubt...
