Hagalaz' Runedance

Hagalaz' Runedance was a fascinating tribal trance blend of feminism, gay awareness, psychadelic elements and German culture. Music for fantasy movies... Oh, did I mention I like pirates...?

Andrea wrote all the music for the Hagalaz' Runedance project back in the late 90's. This project was very popular right from the start and entered the charts. Andrea was originally inspired by Germanic occultism through the Neo-Folk music scene, thus Hagalaz' Runedance was, in the beginning, linked to this genre, even referred to as the most selling Neo-Folk album. Hagalaz' Runedance became very popular in the Metal scene, which also explains the good sales. With all the negative attention and demonisation Neo-Folk received in the late 90's, Andréa took a sudden turn and focused on the folk/medieval and pagan scene: "I tried to be a smart-arse... but it soon bit me in the butt :-). I felt like I had to hide the real person I was within. And you can only hold down the bad girl for a while; eventually she will rise again, and so I did!"
Realising that pagan Folk wasn't really her thing, she ended the project soon after and moved on to gothic tunes and urban art again.

In her own words:

"... On your life-journey, some interests you have all your life and others come spontaneously and fade again. For a while, I got inspired by the old Germanic traditions. We all were, it was the current trend in the music scene. Through this I made an important discovery: all religions are restrictive rules created by others that eventually close the mind - the "ethnic" religions even more so, actually! I saw people, basically, restricting themselves to their own ethnic culture, in a way expressing the same need for rules and fear of outer influences as Christians do. The Hagalaz' period was a short-lived inspiration for me; neither Folk music or the new-religious movement was my thing. I realised that Nature was not about "hanging out in the woods", it means listening to your inner instincts. I am a free spirit and I love to explore hidden and forbidden thrills, deeper psychological situations. My mind needs constant stimulation. These days I keep my personal spiritual quests separated from my artistic expressions."

These days I study quantum physics, eastern philospohies... and from time to time I check in with my good old friend Satan.
