The Ancient Fires of Midgard

I wrote the book around 1998 and it was published in 2000, by Well of Urd. Second Sight Books published a German version in 2001, and the book was also translated into other languages. The book has been re-published a couple of times more, but I have no idea how many times, since my first publisher was quite dodgy and bootlegs across the world have probably been made as well.

I would like to point out that the book reflected personal viewpoints that I had back in that particular period and, naturally, I have by far outgrown those views in many ways. "Vital life is ever changing and growing".

I think it is important for people who read the original book to keep this in mind. I eagerly wrote that book, because it is really important that people understand their own roots and local Pagan customs and, with it, realise how the Church has demonised the natural traditions and the spirit of our Pagan ancestors. So yes, I am proud of all the things I wrote, the insight I have and I certainly think it is essential to bring back the true meanings behind our old customs - and I managed to do this pretty good, I think.

However, somewhere down the line, I appear to come across as being "Germanic religious" and this is the part I do not like! I think I kind of blended the northern traditions together with the general insight I had about human nature and Pagan magical traditions. Regardless, I did clearly state that I am spiritual, an alternative artist, that a lot of chapters apply to human nature in general and that I want, most of all, for people to free themselves and think for themselves - I always ever said that clearly! Yet, people sadly focused more on the "norse" thing, viewing me as a "role model" for the "Germanic Heathen religion", attracting "conservative traditionalists" and pretty soon after I published the book I tried to distance myself from this. One must not forget that back then the entire Black Metal scene got into the Viking/Medieval image and when we had The Lord of the Rings movies, there was a big hype about that and I really am done with that.

Anyway, I will not publish any more editions of The Ancient Fires of Midgard in the original form; but don't worry, as no vital infos will be lost. I am splitting the book and keep the vital infos on the northern myths, traditions and folklore, and I will probably call it Understanding the Myths and Magical Traditions of the Germanic Pagans - only rewritten in a more neutral and informative way. Many other subjects of the book that discuss Pagan awareness and my social critical views can be found again in my new book Walking With the Night. I thought that doing it this way makes more sense. I will try to publish those two works and also have them available as e-books on this section soon.
